LEARNING L'DOR VADOR!
How special to begin the new year by wrapping up 5784 in such wonderful ways! September has been incredibly full as each of our programs was launched with such joy for learning and being together. Look how vibrant our programs are. Don't you want to be involved? Enrollment is still open! Click here or the image below.
JCOGS families gleaned over 120 lbs. of apples that were distributed to those in need throughout the NEK in a wonderful collaboration between Salvation Farms, Elmore Roots, and JCVT.
A week later, the JCOGS education program in the Mad River Valley met for their first gathering of the season and gleaned bushels of apples in a private orchard. The parent educators led dramatic Torah storytelling about the Garden of Eden before welcoming in Shabbat with a sunset potluck picnic. How perfect is that? Do you know kids in the MRV who might like a monthly Jewish ed program? Be in touch with Beth at beth.liberman@jcogs.org
MITZVAH
We're still celebrating! Margot and Arlo knocked it out of the park this month with their Torah reading and each gave an incredible d'var. Click here to read them! Be sure to join us for some or all of the FOUR upcoming ceremonies in October and November. Click here to see who's on deck.
The 5785 mitzvah class is learning on Wednesdays and the 6th graders have joined in, too. Our students come from all over Lamoille and Washington counties to make their way to JCOGS each week! Is your child or grandchild interested in having a mitzvah ceremony? 7th and 8th graders are still welcome to join this year's cohort. Register here or contact Amy Rosenthal at amy.rosenthal@jcogs.org
OLAM CHESED CLUB
Wednesdays are so full of energy and learning as we explore this year's theme of kadosh/holy קדוש! We've been amazed at how many ways we can bring holiness into our lives, like creating a kehilah kedushah/holy community each time we meet; practicing netilat yadayim/ritually washing hands; noticing the words in לדור ודור L'dor vador (above the door!); and the holiness of bringing forth potatoes from the earth (to be used for latkes at Hanukkah!), and, of course preparing for the High HOLY Days! For more information about our weekly Hebrew school program for 1st-6th graders Olam Chesed Club click here.
TOT SHABBAT
This past Shabbat we filled the den with littles and their grownups—new families and familiar ones— for a Rosh Hashanah journey, shaking our rosh in the hokey pokey and being apples dipped in parachutes of honey, all brought to us by the letter shin ש (for Shabbat, shanah, and of course, hearing the shofar!). Be sure to join us for the next Tot Shabbat in the JCOGS on Oct. 19th Register HERE to join our sweet community of young families!
TEEN TIKKUN OLAM
Zack Brooks from JCVT led JCOGS teens in a special evening of cooking for the 21 residents at Lamoille Community House. The teens prepared a great meal and then took the initiative to preparetwo desserts. They got to meet with some guests and share stories. It was a powerful experience. The teens are already planning the next meal! Click here to contact Beth to get on the list for all our great teen events, including the trip to Montreal!
