Dear JCOGS family,

On Thursday from 6-8pm, we have an important program at JCOGS for our members: The Listening Project with Andy Robinson: 60+ Conversations with Jews about the Israeli and Palestinian conflict. Please RSVP HERE.

We are hearing from dozens and dozens of our members that they are looking for a space to reflect and talk together since October 7. Two of our JCOGS board of trustees—Debby Sherman and Lynne Gedanken—did just that when they attended Andy’s presentation at Beth Jacob Synagogue in March. Good friends, with different perspectives on Israel and the conflict, Debby and Lynne both appreciated the program. Here’s what they had to say:

“I went to this program trying to understand different opinions than mine and how they developed so that I could learn from them and so they could learn from me. I think it’s an important program at this time. Andy gave good information and he is a very good moderator. We need to actively listen to each other and this is a good start.” - Debby

“The Listening Project at Beth Jacob in March was an exceptional experience.  Learning to listen with curiosity, but without judgment helped create a safe space for each person to speak from their heart.  I left wanting more.” - Lynne

In consultation with Andy, Thursday’s program has been adapted for JCOGS to give greater time for listening to one another. After sharing a brief summary of what he learned from all his interviews, Andy will guide us in a series of listening exercises so we can practice listening to each other one-to-one, with curiosity and without judgment. What questions would you like to ask each other? 

If this feels like it will be a productive and meaningful space for you to join, we encourage your participation. We also appreciate that at this time, this may not be a program for everyone. Our goal is to build community and be in deeper relationship through this listening project.
