This Shabbat, we begin at 6pm by commemorating Yom Hazikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day. As the first memorial day since October 7, we will mark the lives lost on that day with special prayers and will write notes to the families of the remaining hostages. We will then bring in Shabbat and observe Yom Haatzmaut, Israeli Independence Day with some Israeli and Shabbat music. Plan to stay for a middle eastern and Israeli food feast catered by Aladdin!
Listen to this beautifully crafted song Yom Od Yavoh - A Day Will Come by Noah Aronson and Noam Sender, recorded with Israeli musicians. Written only one week after the October 7 attacks, Noam weaves Jewish sacred texts into his original lyrics, and also displays hopefulness in such a raw moment. Noah writes: “So, we share this with you...in the hopes that it honors all the lives that have been lost and allows us all to continue to strive for an enduring and lasting peace.”
Listen or read a personal, scholarly short reflection from Hadar’s Rabbi Avi Strausberg on the feeling of observing these holidays from a distance this year.
Bring your special elders to join us in saying "Todah!" in gratitude for a wonderful year of learning together. Join Rabbi David and Beth for a fun, musical Shabbat morning of song, movement, and play.
