Mitzvah project
Part of becoming a Jewish adult is learning to engage in tikkun olam, repairing the world through mitzvah and tzedakah.
Students are required to engage in a project that addresses a community challenge through direct service, education and awareness building, philanthropy, and/or advocacy. Upon completion of the project (at least a month prior to the mitzvah ceremony) the student will create a presentation that shares the details of their endeavor and some insight into what they have gained through the experience.
Some examples include:
-
volunteering at JCOGS
-
volunteering at a community service organization
-
visiting the sick, the disabled, or the elderly
-
working on behalf of world Jewry
-
raising awareness of a local or international cause
-
raising money for a not-for-profit organization
-
planning and performing an environmental project
