Ateed*
Jewish teen engagement begins here!
Ateed, which means future in Hebrew, is our teen engagement program. Becoming adults in the Jewish community at thirteen years of age, our teens are active and contributing members of the JCOGS community, welcome and encouraged to get involved in all aspects of Jewish community:
- serving on the JCOGS board
- volunteering at holidays and other event programming such as our Hanukkah and Purim festivals throughout northern Vermont, and at our annual Farmers Market day in Stowe
- supporting our education programs for younger students as madrichim (assistants)
- convening as the Teen Tzedakah Team to help the rabbi decide about the allocation of tzedakah funds to local, national, and international charities and non-profit organizations through the study of ancient texts on philanthropy and other Jewish values
- participating in committees such as the Housing task force, the green team for sustainability, JCOGS's rainbow coalition serving the LGBTQ+ community, and more
Ateed teens also have opportunities to participate in social action and social events with teens from across Vermont, such as a three-day trip to Montreal in November with teens from across VT and NH.
Contact the director of education, at beth.liberman@jcogs.org for more information. All Jewish teens age 13 and older are welcome to participate! No previous experience in Jewish life required.
