JCOGS Receives Grant Funds for Shelter Meals The Vermont Community Foundation awarded a Green Mountain Fund grant of $5,000 to JCOGS to support tikkun olam cooking for local shelters. This grant will allow us to expand our cooking program from twice monthly to every week. Join us in the kitchen every Tuesday to cook meals for people experiencing homelessness in our community. We are grateful to Stacy Burnstein for her work to secure this grant. Contact Stacy at stacyeveburnstein@gmail.com to volunteer to cook.
Rabbi David Ignites the Elderly Spirit with Song
A mini concert of Jewish spirituals and Americana folk music filled the activity room at Heaton Woods Residence in Montpellier. The residence is the new home of ourcongregant Mel Siegel. Mel calls it a wonderful hotel with many smiling caregivers. He and many of his new friends joyfully clapped and sang along to “Shalom” and “This Land is Your Land”. It was a wonderful program attended by nearly all the 35 residents. Hosted by Mel, he was very proud to share his love of Rabbi David. Miriam and Stephen Rosenbloom attended. JCOGS Congregants are encouraged to visit Mel at Heaton Woods, 10 Heaton St., in Montpelier. Take a chocolate bar for him with you.
EDUCATION
Fall is in full swing at Hebrew School, and our students are happy and thriving!
Our youngest learners birth through age 7 enjoyed four fun-filled programs this month, including apple picking. The Gesher group continues to thrive with high energy and enthusiasm. New students have been warmly welcomed, and everyone is engaged in creative activities, including arts, movement, and storytelling. Hebrew Pods includes 24 wonderful students between Mad River Valley, Beth Jacob and JCOGS. Our Pre-Mitzvah/Mitzvah group is excelling in prayer leadership, Torah study, and understanding historical context. Lastly, our Youth Group continues to encourage cross-age connections. Six of our teens are preparing to participate in the upcoming Civil Rights trip!
