Over 40 people gathered on Wednesday for a family-friendly Purim carnival, adloyada parade in front of JCOGS, songs, shpiel, matanot laevyonim/gift bags made for those unhoused, and food! On Friday, well over 70 multi-generational folks gathered for the illustrious JCOGS Purim Band, Studio 5785 Disco shpiel, Megillah reading, and delicious oneg. As promised, the most important person in the world did show up. If you were left wondering: “Who’s that?” Look at the sign, pictured. The theme was the importance of each of us.
In the Book of Esther 4:13-14, Mordechai tells his niece Esther: “Do not imagine that you, of all the Jews, will escape by being in the king’s palace. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place — and you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows, perhaps you have attained a royal position just for such a time as this?”
Esther never wanted to be queen. Yet she rises to the occasion. She finally sees that she is the queen she has always been inside of herself. Mordechai teaches us that “we are the ones we have been waiting for.”
Yes! YOU are the most important person to show up, to take a stand or be a leader, even when it seems insignificant or insurmountable.
What a joy to be together for Purim!
