Sukkot is the time of year where we begin to live into the intentions we set on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. This is especially true as we begin the Shmitta year, a year of rest and reflection, release and receiving.
On a personal level, have you introduced any new and healthy life-affirming micro-habits to set the year off right? On a communal level, how will you lean into your Jewish community?
Here are three new JCOGS initiatives you can jump into right now:
THIS Shabbat morning at 10 a.m. (i.e., tomorrow!), come on down to the tent or Zoom for our first-ever hybrid monthly Shabbat morning service,
with Torah reading and discussion, followed by a delicious kiddush.
Learning Part 1: On Yom Kippur, JCOGS gave out no less than 100 copies of Yossi Klein Halevi’s book “Letters to my Palestinian Neighbor.” On Sunday in person and Monday on Zoom, both at 5 p.m., join the discussion by bringing one of your favourite quotes from the book, whether or not you’ve read the whole book.
Learning Part 2: On October 4th, we launch a Zoom cohort of learners using the Shalom Hartman Institute’s new Foundations for a Thoughtful Judaism curriculum, combining text-based learning with experiential practices. Feel free to attend the first session before committing for the year.
Embrace Shabbat this year. Embrace learning this year. And set into practice a year in community, for a thoughtfully-led life.
Moadim l’Simcha! Happy Sukkot! And Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi David
