The snow has finally arrived, in full force! I know that I for one have been thoroughly pleased with this turn of nature. I may not be as excited when we get a big snowfall in April, but for now, I see it clearly as a gift of G-d.
Winter in Vermont is not welcomed by all. But more, it can be outright dangerous for others.
Since COVID hit, the numbers of people experiencing homelessness in our county is staggering, climbing to 95 adults and 29 children in our community. The Lamoille Community House warming shelter has been serving all of these people, day in and day out, 24/7, at the Yellow House in Hyde Park and at various hotels in our county since the pandemic began.
Here is a very particular list of articles of clothing and boots and the like that are needed right now by guests at LCH. Here’s a to do list for you:
Please have a look at the list.
If you have any of these in good condition get in touch with LCH executive director Kim Anetsberger, kanetsberger@lamoilleshelter.org or shelter manager Nicole Chauvin nchauvin@lamoilleshelter.org. (I could not be more proud of the work that Kim and Nicole are doing in our community.)
Arrange a time to drop them off at the Yellow House warming shelter (not at JCOGS).
As we enjoy the snow and all that Vermont winter offers, let us help provide what support we can to those in need. And let’s show our neighbours what JCOGS is all about: creating a place of warmth and care for all.
Tihiyu bri’im, be safe, stay well. Shabbat Shalom,
