Film of Puccini’s Turandot: New Date due to previous power outage
      Sunday, Aug 25th 4:00p to 6:00p
Franco Zeffirelli passed away Sunday June 16 at his home in Rome. He was 96. Among other things, Zeffirelli was widely known for his extraordinary sets for a number of productions at The Metropolitan Opera. They were sumptuous and grand. His sets often drew applause from the audience when the curtain opened. On Sunday July 28, at 4:00 pm, at JCOGS, Stowe Area Opera Lovers will present what New York Times critic Anthony Tommasini has called. “The biggest grandest Zeffirelli show of them all”: Turandot. Turandot was Puccini’s final opera and features the well-known aria “Nessun Dorma”, one of the best known tenor arias in all of opera. This Metropolitan Opera production stars Maria Guleghina and Marcello Giordani. Carole Lichtenstein will open the program by presenting an overview of Zeffirelli’s career. The DVD was released in 2011. The run time is 129 minutes. There will be no admission fee for this event. Refreshments will be served.
