Come early for the Shabbat service and continue after the service during the Oneg. Reflect on the environmental crisis in a non-judgmental space and plant seeds of hope (and parsley for Passover!). Participate in a seed swap and start seedlings for both JCOGS and to take home.
Share your ideas for a JCOGS climate action plan to reduce carbon emissions and get involved through our potential partnership with the Jewish Climate Leadership Coalition.
6pm Musical Shabbat Service with Marom, the JCOGS Band, and connections to Jewish values like bal tashchit (do not waste) and shomrei adamah (guardians of the earth) while supporting JCOGS efforts toward climate justice.
7:15pm Community Vegetarian Potluck Let’s aim for a zero-waste event, as we use our finest JCOGS china! We’ll focus on reducing, reusing, recycling, rethinking, resting, reconnecting, and rejuvenating. For Tu B’Shvat, we encourage you to bring vegetarian dishes featuring the Seven Species (Shiv’at HaMinim), the sacred foods of the Land of Israel mentioned in the Torah: wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, dates.
Maple Syrup Fundraiser: Support our tikkun olam initiatives by purchasing locally-made maple syrup
Let’s come together to celebrate the wonders of creation and explore our role in caring for the earth.
